Functions And Purpose Of A CCTV Security System

Monday May 10, 2021

CCTV is the abbreviated version for closed-circuit television. This system authorises you to know what’s going on around your business. Here cameras and monitors enable you to see live footage and record footage for reference in the archives. Often, a television and a CCTV monitor are mistaken for the same. A monitor for a CCTV is different from a television. It receives only footage from the cameras installed for security on the premises of a building.

CCTV technology has been in existence for years. Technological advancements in recent decades have made capturing criminals and bringing justice more effective. The most basic purpose of security cameras is to record footage, especially in places where much crime is committed.

Wired security cameras make use of cables to transfer footage and run video surveillance. The use of appropriate wires and switches can assist in better servicing. The monitor can interconnect several cameras in a room, mostly set for security.

Analog cameras are the most widely used type of CCTV security used today as was before. They have elementary functions and record video on sight.

IP or Internet protocol cameras perform the same functions as the analogs but with more outstanding capabilities. It has sharper, more precise resolution images and flexible features. You also have the option to survey the footage recorded on a browser.

It makes it possible to receive alerts on anything peculiar to your camera’s records. Examples like movement in your business and watch it live using a smartphone or a computer. A significant drawback of the IP cameras is that they are expensive.

Security Systems and How They Work Together

All CCTVs require a load of wiring, even wireless systems. The cable is used to link different equipment parts, like the monitors, recorders, cameras, etc.

Video recorders

When the CCTV camera locates something of suspicion, a recorder can help you view it at a later time. Your cameras can be programmed to record all they can cover. But doing so will take up much storage space.

Thus, one needs to program the system to record only definite things at different time frames of the day. The video recording has the DVR and NVR.

DVR and NVR

DVRs, or Digital Video Recorders, are modern-day replacements for analogs. These recorders capture footage with the help of analog cameras at the required resolution. When the storage is full, the new footage will record over the oldest ones.

NVRs, or Network Video Recorders, work the same as DVRs, but they are adaptable with Internet Protocol cameras. The cameras and the NVRs connect through a network. You can get easy access to footage on the NVR by using a web browser or an app on your phone.

Display unit

The DVRs or NVRs must connect to a TV or monitor to view footage from security cameras. The unit of the display can vary from a monochromic monitor to a High-Definition colored one. If you install IP cameras, you can view the footage separately from a computer or smartphone.

Install CCTV in your business

Your goal can be to prevent break-ins, theft, vandalism or keep an eye on employees’. CCTV can be most helpful to take care of all these when established for your business and homes.
